About the author: Gary Crew
Gary lives in Queensland, where he spends much of his spare time developing a rainforest on his rural property. He has written many books for children, including Strange Objects, which won the Australian Children's Book of the Year (I99I), the Alan Marshall Prize and the NSW Premier's Award for Children's Literature, while being shortlisted for the American Crime Writer's Edgar Allan Poe Award for Mystery Fiction.
In 1994 Angel's Gate won the Australian Children's Book of the Year (Older Readers) and the National Book Award, while First Light won the Children's Picture Book of the Year. The Watertower was awarded the Children's Picture Book of the Year (I995) and the BILBY Children's Choice.
About the illustrator: Steven Woolman
Steven (1969-2004) lived in Adelaide, South Australia and worked fulltime as an illustrator of children's novels and picture books. In 1995 The Watertower won the Children's Picture Book of the Year, and was shortlisted for the Australian Publishers Association design awards. It is recognised as Australia’s first post-modern picture book.
